Nov 8, 2024
9:30 am - 3:00 pm

ROE #3 Professional Development Center
1500 W Jefferson St
Vandalia, IL 62471

The purpose of this session is to provide educators with a practical overview of the science of reading. To begin, we will cover relevant background information, exploring processes involved in reading, conceptual frameworks (e.g., Reading Rope), and practices not aligned with research. Next, we will transition into applying this knowledge by delving into the basics of foundational reading and phonics. This includes phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, high-frequency words, blends and digraphs, syllable types, and multi-syllabic word decoding. Throughout this exploration, we will incorporate multi-modal dictation practice to reinforce learning. Finally, we will conclude by focusing on structuring and implementing lessons that promote reading fluency and help students connect with text effectively.

This training will be held of November 8, 2024 at the ROE #3 Professional Development Center from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. The cost to attend this training is $125/person and lunch will be provided. Each participant will receive 5.0 PD hours.
