Preparing your Students/Classroom for the Total Solar Eclipse

Jan 24, 2024
8:30 am - 11:30 am

ROE #3 Professional Development Center
1500 W Jefferson St
Vandalia, IL 62471

On April 8, 2024 at 2 pm there will be a Total Eclipse in our region. It will vary from 99 to 100% of the sun eclipsed across ROE #3. This will be a once in a career opportunity. Plan to share with students because it won’t be close again until 2045. We'll cover what really happens, step-by-step changes in the sun and around us that we’ll observe. How to prepare students and methods to safely observe the eclipse will be covered. Participants will receive solar eclipse glasses, UV beads, and build pinhole viewing devices. Will share and discuss curriculum activities for grades PreK to Grad School. Citizen Science Activities and Free Apps will be included. There are rich learning opportunities possible before, during, and after the event.

Presenter: Terence Sullivan,  Amateur Astronomer,  Solar Eclipse Veteran ,  ASP Eclipse Ambassador and Charter StarLab Teacher
