The FAN: A Tool for Attuning to Parents and Ourselves
The FAN Approach serves as an internal GPS; a roadmap for engaging with parents. The FAN focuses on parents' urgent concerns and helps home visitors and clinicians tailor responses to match what parents seem to need most in the moment. The FAN also helps home visitors and clinicians recognize how their own internal sense of regulation/dysregulation impacts their ability to be fully present with a family. The FAN offers strategies to help home visitors and clinicians feel balanced in activating/high risk situations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the role of attunement within home-based services and reflective supervision.
  2. Participants will be able to identify matches and mismatches using the FAN Core Processes and identify when to shift processes according to changes in client/staff engagement cues.
  3. Participants will be able to identify signs of their reactivity in engagements with clients/staff and identify at least one Mindful Self-Regulation strategy to use in their work.
  4. Participants will be able to identify and explore client concerns in a collaborative manner, encouraging clients to help set the agenda and think together on workable solutions.
  5. Participants will identify new strategies for giving clients/staff information and resources in a digestible, meaningful way.
  6. Participants will be able to describe the ARC of Engagement and implement the structure in their home-based sessions/blended (reflective & administrative) supervision.

This training will be held on May 22 & 23, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the ROE #3 Professional Development Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. on both days. This event is FREE to attend. Lunch will be provided each day.
