TeachIllinois accomplishes this with free professional development opportunities, subscriptions that allow you to meet all your renewal professional development hours and with individual courses for sustained professional growth.
Through December 31, 2017:
If you are retired, and your professional educator license has lapsed for failure to renew, you may reinstate that license without penalty by providing proof of retirement from a state retirement system to the State Board of Education. You must submit a copy of a letter from a state retirement system (on official agency letterhead) confirming your retirement. Your name, IEIN, and date of birth must be included with the letter. Upon verification that you are not working in a position requiring a professional educator license, ISBE will reinstate your license.
The verification letter will be used in lieu of a $500 penalty fee or 9 semester hours of coursework. You will not need to enter any professional development owed or pay any license registration fees.
Letters may be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to the Illinois State Board of Education at:

The Regional Office of Education #3 serving Bond, Christian, Effingham, Fayette and Montgomery Counties is now offering the TASC Test at its Hillsboro Office.
The TASC test is a high school equivalency test recognized by the State of Illinois and will assess five subject areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as measure examinees’ readiness for college and the workforce. Passage of the TASC test will provide the same result as passing the GED test - a high school equivalency diploma from the State of Illinois.
A list of the TASC test study materials can be found on TASCTest.com. Questions can be directed to Sarah Huckstead at the ROE #3 Office in Taylorville at (217) 824-4730.
For residents who are interested in a computer-based test, the GED can be taken at various locations. For the ROE #3 area, testing centers are located in Springfield, Centralia and Mattoon. Other testing locations can be found at the website www.GED.com. Interested test-takers are encouraged to work with their local adult education provider at the community college to help prepare for whichever test they choose to take.
